John E Jaan has been dancing, acting, performing, and drumming since the age of six when his Scottish grandfather (with roots from the Innes clan, whose ancestor is Berowald) gifted him a Muppet Show drum kit. His desire to play like Animal has never waned. When he was invited to play with Tartanic he pounded at the opportunity!
Studying traditional drumming in the orchestra led to a passion for other instruments, and he began to explore guitar, sitar, oud, saz, didjeridoo, and steel drums. As his passion grew for world music he sought and discovered many great teachers along the way. John is also a composer/singer songwriter fusing electronic music with old world instruments.
An Ohio native, John was led to Texas for love and for food. For 6 years he owned a restaurant and honed his talents for cooking world fusion cuisine. At fate would have it, he hired Jill Anne Jack who was shortly swept away from his employ by the charismatic Adrian Walter. The idea of life on the road in a traveling band swirled in her head like a beautiful fantasy, and she bit! Now John, Jill, and Adrian are reunited and it feels so good.
John's passion for cooking exotic dishes is much like his passion for world music and live performance. Using far away spices and evoking colorful rhythms brings a mouth-watering blend to Tartanic's kitchen as well as their stage!
John is currently working on his first album, and should be released before the years end.
